How Mark Wahlberg Narrowly Escaped 9/11 Flight

Mark Wahlberg narrowly avoided becoming one of the thousands of individuals who lost their lives in the 9/11 terrorist attacks on America as a result of his A-List celebrity status.

Had he not decided to leave a week earlier, the actor might have been a victim on September 11th. He was meant to be aboard American Airlines Flight 11 from Boston to Los Angeles- the very plane that was hijacked and crashed into New York’s World Trade Center.

After relating his story of near-death, the actor issued an apology for suggesting he could have prevented the tragic event. Wahlberg stated in an interview with Men’s Journal: “If I was on that plane with my kids, it wouldn’t have went down like it did.

“There would have been a lot of blood in that first-class cabin and then me saying, ‘OK, we’re going to land somewhere safely, don’t worry’.”

He later apologized for his comments, saying that it was wrong to make assumptions about what he would have done if he had been on the plane. He added that it was irresponsible to even suggest that he would have acted differently than the other passengers.

On September 11, 2001, al-Qaeda carried out a series of simultaneous terrorist attacks.

Under the instruction of Osama bin Laden, 19 terrorists took control of four commercial airlines mid-flight with the objective of crashing the planes into well-known American buildings.

Two planes crashed into the towers of the World Trade Center in New York – more popularly known as the Twin Towers. The third aeroplane hit the Pentagon in Virginia.

The fourth plane was supposed to hit a government building in Washington, D.C., but it crashed in a field outside Pennsylvania after passengers revolted and stopped the attack. A total of 2,996 people died as a result of the attacks.
