Singer-songwriter Khalid, known for his chart-topping hits and soulful voice, publicly came out as gay in a series of posts on social media. The 26-year-old artist made the announcement Friday on X (formerly Twitter) following claims that he had been outed.
Khalid, whose full name is Khalid Donnel Robinson, initially shared a rainbow flag emoji alongside a short, candid statement:
“🏳️🌈!!! there yall go. next topic please lol,” he wrote.
Shortly after, Khalid elaborated, revealing that he had been outed but chose not to dwell on the situation. “The world still continues to turn,” he said, adding that he was “not ashamed” of his sexuality but had previously kept it private, stating, “it ain’t nobodies business.”
Khalid also clarified that he was never “hiding” his orientation, responding directly to fans who expressed support and understanding. Despite the unexpected circumstances, he maintained a positive outlook, thanking his fans for their encouragement in a post shared on his Instagram story.
The Grammy-nominated artist, who recently released his third studio album Sincere in August, has enjoyed a successful career since his breakout in 2017. Known for hits like “Location” and “Young Dumb & Broke,” Khalid has earned six Grammy nominations and numerous awards, including MTV Video Music Awards and Billboard Music Awards. In 2019, he was named one of Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People.
Although his coming out wasn’t on his own terms, Khalid expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support from fans and seemed ready to move forward, ending the discussion on his terms: “Thank you for all of the support. Love y’all.”
Khalid’s representatives have yet to comment further on the matter.
