Owens, known for her outspoken views on topics such as Black Lives Matter, feminism, and immigration, had planned a speaking tour across multiple cities in Australia and New Zealand in early 2024. Despite the visa denial, tickets for the events remain on sale, with no indication from promoters about the immigration challenges she faces.
The visa rejections stem from Owens’ history of polarizing statements, including comments downplaying historical atrocities and opposing U.S. military support for Israel. Her remarks have drawn condemnation from various groups, including Jewish organizations, for perpetuating conspiracy theories and antisemitic rhetoric. These controversies have led to accusations of fostering division and discord.
In October, Australian officials cited her divisive remarks as grounds for denying her entry, stating her presence posed risks of inciting unrest. Jewish advocacy groups in Australia had strongly opposed her visit, arguing that her rhetoric could inflame tensions. Following Australia’s decision, New Zealand also declined Owens’ visa request.
