Four Bodies Recovered After Tourist Yacht Capsizes in Egypt’s Red Sea

Issues ArisingFour Bodies Recovered After Tourist Yacht Capsizes in Egypt’s Red Sea

Four bodies have been recovered from the wreckage of the Sea Story, a tourist yacht that capsized off Egypt’s Red Sea coast on Monday, November 25. The recovery occurred on the morning of Tuesday, November 26, as confirmed by Red Sea provincial governor Amr Hanafi. The exact location of the bodies within the boat has not been disclosed.

Three individuals—two Belgians and one Egyptian—were found alive on Tuesday, bringing the total number of rescued passengers to 31. Efforts continue to locate those still missing.

The Sea Story capsized after being struck by high waves near the Sataya Reef during a five-day diving trip. The yacht, carrying 31 tourists and 13 crew members, sank within 5-7 minutes of the incident. It had departed from Porto Ghalib in Marsa Alam on Sunday, November 24, and was scheduled to reach Hurghada Marina on Friday, November 29.

A distress signal was sent at approximately 5:30 a.m. local time, shortly after departure. The Egyptian Meteorological Authority had issued warnings about high waves in the Red Sea for Sunday and Monday, which were communicated to the vessel on Saturday, November 23.

The 14-meter yacht had reportedly passed its most recent safety inspection in March, with no technical issues noted. Built in 2022, the Sea Story was a four-deck vessel equipped with life jackets in each cabin and two safety rafts capable of carrying 25 people each.

The passengers onboard included nationals from the United States, the United Kingdom, Spain, Germany, Slovakia, Switzerland, Belgium, Poland, Norway, Ireland, Finland, and China. Of the 14 crew members, all were Egyptian.

Dive Pro Liveaboard, the company that built the Sea Story, has not yet commented on the incident. Rescue operations are ongoing as authorities work to locate the missing passengers.
